i am split between what i voted and the idea of a 24/7 request channel. Would it mean that we would have direct access basically to the mighty galactic database, that requests somehow get processed automatically?

yes. in theory you sould be able to request any track available in the IFM music section

It's a tough call.. themed days is not a bad option either

'any (and all?) tracks available'? lol.. innovative but daring idea, that might get complex...nice thought

themed days is a cool idea but not very easy to carry on.
i think request channel is the best option.

The way CBS is running now is Mon-Thu themed days and classic CBS style nonstop Fri-Sun.
We're currently testing a station in request modus and its working pretty well. still bugs to iron out though.

the 24/7 request could be an interesting experiment to get listeners more involved. kind of a People's channel.
and maybe in combo with loose themes every now and then so its not crazy all over the map.

I'm a Black Monday freak myself, but is there really enough of that music for 24/7 broadcasting?

I like how it is now actually, especially with the "best of IFM" weekends.

sorry, change of subject.
i think mostly the IFM is all good but i always want a change to the rating system.
IMO its not possible to give a track a negative rating or to hate it, as you say.
With the current rating system any vote for a track is a postive vote for the track and not against it. I mean in theory a rating of 1 is still a vote for the track.

Still rating tracks is important because when it got a certain amount of votes and the average is lower as 2.5 there is a big chance you'll never hear it again on the radio. it will remain available in the database for request purposes though.

ah ok. thats something to consider.
but check it out... this is just my personal M.O.... if for example UR003 comes on, which is one of the greatest records ever, I wouldnt necessarily vote on it because i just figure that everybody knows it and loves it and has heard it a million times. i usually vote on music that i dont really know or that is new for that year. It would only become unfortunate if the top 100 just becomes a classic hits show and not a showcase for newer music of the year...??? I dont know, its just a thought. I love voting and will be much more liberal with lower points from now on!

thx for giving us the opportunity to vote on what to do with ifm4. thats pretty cool, i think!
ive voted for classic non stops, but also very much like the idea of requests (have my doubts in requests 24/7 though).
but imo, best would be to have the classic nonstops plus some regular themed hours per day (incl. regular request hours).

hm, just wondered.. how would it work with requests 24/7 anyway? what if theres no request at some point? does requests 24/7 mean one can request whenever one likes, but in the meantime theres just anything else from the database? if so i might want to change my vote ;)

ezora: if nobody requests it will just pick songs from the database until it receives a new request

Frankly I don't think you (and most of us) would like what I see happening with a 24/7 request channel, which is Mr. Flagio and K Barre every hour lol

themed days mixed with some surprise request hours (a random element might increase it's novelty status)
